Frances seeks to bring the joy and fascination of wild birds to all her readers, from experienced bird watchers to armchair naturalists. This is evident in her book Brushed by Feathers: A Year of Birdwatching in the West and her monthly bird watching column for the South Whidbey Record www.southwhidbeyrecord.com. For more than a decade she’s shared her passion for wild birds, always giving her personal insights and advocating protection of the fragile environment in which they live. Frances helped launch the NPR radio program BirdNote. She took on the role of head writer and has since produced nearly 100 scripts incorporating bird songs with descriptions of birds, their stories and myths. BirdNote is now aired in seven states. Check www.Birdnote.org for a station near you, or listen online. Frances’ articles have appeared in WildBird and Sea Kayaker magazines and she continues to publish a monthly column on bird watching for local newspapers. She writes about the birds in her neighborhood from hummingbirds to eagles and also about birding adventures on her travels in Mexico, Central and South American, Korea, New Zealand, Europe and Africa.
