Frances is involved with the following projects to survey birds in Puget Sound.

Bluff Breeding Bird Survey

The purpose of this survey is to locate nesting Pigeon Guillemots, Belted Kingfishers and Northern Rough-winged Swallows along the shores of Whidbey Island. The project is in cooperation with the Island County Marine Resources Committee.

Dates: 2003-2004 during nesting season.

Pigeon Guillemots in Puget Sound

The purpose of this survey is to monitor Pigeon Guillemots colonies in Puget Sound. The project is ongoing. Information on colonies of Pigeon Guillemots (other than on Whidbey Island) can be sent to Frances (email).

Breeding Bird Survey for Island County, Washington

The purpose of this project is to survey all parts of Island County to determine the probability of nesting birds. Most of the data collection was completed in 2001-2002. Species of continued interest are Common Nighthawk, Western Screech-Owl, Western Wood-Pewee, Willow Flycatcher, Cassin's Vireo, Common Raven, Varied Thrush, Black-throated Gray Warbler, Western Tanager, Western Meadowlark, Purple Finch and Evening Grosbeak. Sightings of nesting behavior of these species breeding in Island Country can be sent to Frances (email).
