About Frances

“Let the beauty we love
be what we do."

In 2004 Frances began coordinating a research project on the nearly 1,000 Pigeon Guillemots, black and white seabirds with fire engine red feet, that breed in the bluffs around Whidbey Island.

Every summer the team of over 40 volunteers and a paid intern observe and report activity at 25 colonies. The project's goals are to monitor the guillemot population, to identify and record the fish species carried to the burrows for the young birds and to educate the community about these playful and fascinating seabirds.
